PROOFREADING

HARRISON MEDIA lends our expertise to assisting you with proofreading your academic papers, theses, official documents, newsletters, etc. Our proofreaders are active writers, grammar experts, and careful reviewers. While COPY-EDITING is a comprehensive process aimed at finding and correcting errors, styles, and formatting, PROOFREADING (reading a proof, or draft document ready for publication) often occurs at the end of production of the document, including fixing errors after formatting, references, and document preparation has taken place.

We keep all documents on file in case additional review or editing is required.

Authors expend much energy and time putting their thoughts and life into print, publishing those thoughts, and making them available for a willing audience. A right arm that can take care of broadening your market, storing your work, filling orders, and packing and shipping--this help would allow you to focus your attention on your craft.

HARRISON MEDIAprovides publishing and distribution services for new authors who desire assistance with marketing, sales, and shipping of materials. Contact Ron for information on how we can come alongside you to get the word--and your books--out.

We ship for bulk and individual orders, local to international shipping. USPS, UPS are available.

Our aim at HARRISON MEDIA is to come alongside you as a new and aspiring writer to assist with getting your books, papers, and articles ready for publishing. We provide dependable, detailed, meticulously careful copy-editing and proofreading. Our copy-editing and proofreading experience includes books, manuals, curriculum guides, children's books, poetry, academic research papers, etc. Following are representative works that we have edited and proofread:

  • Brand new children's book series Little Andy by Washington, D.C., educator and author Antoine Lunsford (see our bookstore);
  • Notes from a Colored Girl: The Civil War Pocket Diaries of Emilie Francis Davis, primary source text with Civil War historical context by Loyola University professor Dr. Karsonya Wise Whitehead;

We answer some of your more pressing questions below. If you have additional questions, please contact us here.

Q: What are your copy-editing costs?

A: Since copy-editing is an intensely detailed process, we range from $40-$60 per hour, and we average 3-6 pages/hour, depending on the type of document (children's book, research paper, newsletter, academic thesis, for example) and level of formatting involved. (Post-editing proofreading is included. See proofreading costs below.)

Q: What does copy-editing include?
A: Since copy-editing generally is required for preparation of a document for publication and submission, the following is included: grammar and punctuation check, spelling, correct spacing, page arrangement, writing style, list or documentation of proposed changes if required, and all other editing and revisions for a readable, grammatically correct document. Costs include initial and follow-up readings.

Q: What is involved in the proofreading process?

A: Proofreading is reserved for a review of a document that has already undergone a thorough editing process or has been formatted and needs a "second set of eyes."

Q: What are proofreading costs?

A: Since general proofreading often comes after a more thorough copy-editing process, the costs range from $35 to $50 per hour while we may complete 4-8 pages/hour generally.

Q: What types of manuscripts are acceptable?

A: We work with completed handwritten, digital, and typed documents.

Q: How can I get started?

A: Typically, our process is as follows:

  • First contact, we discuss document, concept (if not yet completed), due dates, and cost.
  • HARRISON MEDIAprepares a contract outlining work required, total cost, expected deposit, and due dates.
  • We request a 1/2 deposit of cost to begin the project;  the remaining 1/2 is invoiced, due upon receipt of the complete project.
  • We provide a brief (optional) survey regarding the work completed.

Q: How can I get  your help publishing my book?

A: Contact us here for a face-to-face (or phone, Skype, etc.) meeting to discuss the possibility.
