Typically, the work from beginning to end lasts one to two weeks! Following is a general timeline:


BEFORE HIRING - consultation 

  • Scanning the document for scope of project & general price estimate (see right for all price estimates)
  • Overall quality assessment of project


 UPON HIRING - copy-editing

  • Contract outlining (1) all costs for services, (2) documents 
    covered in the editing job, often including the following:

    • book manuscript
    • book synopsis or description
    • dedication
    • author's bio
  • 1/2 due paid as deposit
  • 2 to 3 total proofing and editing reviews of document 
  • Zoom call for full review of document
  • ​Final editing after illustrations are added (if necessary)
  • Contact by email, text, and phone as needed 


UPON COMPLETION - wrap-up

  • ​​Payment of balance due
  • Storage of document for later revision: we keep all documents on file in case additional review or editing is required.

COPY-EDITING is a comprehensive process aimed at preparing a document, book, or article for publishing. This may include the following:

  • Formatting, page-arrangement, appearance, organization;
  • Style and story consistency, conciseness, clarity, cohesiveness,  correctness; 
  • ​Proofreading as described below. 


PROOFREADING (reading a proof or draft document) often occurs at the end of production of the document. This stage may include

  • Grammar, spelling, sentence syntax, punctuation, font consistency, references (footnotes and endnotes).

Our copy-editing and proofreading experience includes children's books, chapter books, manuals, newsletters, curriculum guides, poetry, academic research papers and projects and theses, etc. Following are representative of works that we have copy-edited and proofread:

A: HARRISON MEDIA works with completed digital and typed documents. There is an extra charge for transcriptions of handwritten manuscripts. Contact us for customized quote.

A: Contact us by email, text, or phone call. We discuss your manuscript, concept (if not yet completed), due dates, and cost.


Q: What are my costs?

A: HARRISON MEDIA prices our copy-editing projects according to total number of words. Here are our estimated costs:

  • up to 1,500 words: $250​
  • 1,501 - 4,999 words: $400
  • 5,000 - 9,999 words: $600
  • 10,000 - 24,999 words: $800
  • 25,000 - 39,999 words: $900
  • 40,000 + words: Let's talk!


Q: What means of payment do you accept?

A: We accept Zelle, CashApp, and PayPal. (A 3% fee is added for PayPal payments.)
